MSN-02 Zeong (High Mobility Type) - 1/100 G-System (1)

While building the Millennium Falcon, I was planning for my next kit. Looking back at 2012, I've built a Revell F1, a Fujimi BMW, a Bandai MG V-Gundam (haven't published it here...) and ending with the Falcon. So I thought maybe I should start 2013 with something different....Digging through my pile of kits, I came across one that I remembered when it first came out, it was one of the coolest (...and best improvement over the original  I'll explain this later...) I've ever seen. It's the 1/100 MSN-02 Zeong (High Mobility Type) from G-System.

It's not the first time I've seen a G-System kit. They are one of the best makers of Gundam resin kits, and because it's resin, it means not alot will be produced, and once they're gone they're gone forever. I forgot when it is first released, but when I got it in 2009, it's probably the last few around.

So this kit has been sitting in storage for 4 years...one of the reasons why I haven't touched it for so long is because.........it's resin! Unlike plastic kits from the big manufacturers, which are smooth and basically snaps together, parts from a resins kit are a bit rough and need extensive preparation work, some parts may need to be modified just so they can fit together. In another words, it's a big mountain to climb~

Now with more free time on hand, it's a good time to start climbing the mountain. As with every kit it's a good idea to do a pre-assembly first to see what problem lies ahead...

Surprisingly the parts fit together quite well. The arms are missing because.......well.........this is actually a conversion kit! It requires the arms and rocket boosters from Bandai's MG kit to complete.

Comparing it with the original Zeong, you'll know why I give it "The best improvement over the orginal", I still like the retro style of the old Zeong, but this one gave it the modern style it has long been waiting for.

So that's the start of the climb. It happened 2 months ago, by now 80% of the parts are prepared and hopefully in the coming weeks I can start painting. (But with so many good games coming out in February and March, I'm pretty sure things are going to be a bit delayed....)
