Williams FW36 - 1/20 AMC Models (2)

The body in progress. The part looked as though they fit well, but the step between the nose the and body is quite obvious, so it's better to attach it now and treat the body and nose as one piece.

The inside of the side air intakes are a nightmare, sanding the inside wasn't that easy. The right side wasn't even so a plastic piece was placed there to even things out.

The same for the rear:

After the first prime more problems began to appear, most noticeable are the panel lines, they are too deep.

So I had them all filled with putty and re-etched again.

Not all lines are etched equal....and more re-work is on the way.

Up to this point it's almost 2 months on the kit, I was hoping to get some painting started before the end of 2014, but it seems I will still be having fun with this Williams kit for some time in 2015!

Williams FW36 - 1/20 AMC Models (1)

So after the Deltawing, I took a break and built 2 "easy" kits: a Darth Vader TIE Fighter, and a Gundam. Now it's back to building something more challanging. I came across a Japan online shop: AMC Models  and they do resin kits of F1 cars. Recently they released one of the best F1 come-backs of 2014 - The Williams FW36. Due to the regulations of 2014, the cars this year are............well............not the prettiest, but still not bad, and this year Williams has partnered with Martini again, bringing back the legendary livery, you just got to love it!

And here's the kit: AMC-Models Williams FW36

All the parts here, it also comes with photo etch part. The cast is quite good, details are clear, though the chassis is very thin, need to be careful handling that.

A pre-fitting of the parts, actually they fit quite well (for a resin kit...)

The penis ant-eater nose is this year's main feature....

The kit comes with 2 decal options: Test version and Austuralia GP version. Of course I'll go with the GP version! Should be an interesting build.

Nissan DeltaWing - 1/24 Studio27 (3)

Painting is pretty straightforward, mixed about 40% flat back and 60% gloss black for the body.

The decals are a bit tricky, the carbon fibre decals are a bit thick, wrapping them around the parts took alot of softener and time..

The steering wheels and brakes:

One final thing to fix, the space for the brake lights is too big, have to narrow it down with a bit of plastic strip and putty:

Decals in progress....

I replaced the fabric seatbelts with paper, much easier to control.

The transparent part are the worst part in this kit, you have to trim the visor and light cover yourself!

Finally all is done, next is putting the 2 halves together and the finish photo shoot

Nissan DeltaWing - 1/24 Studio27 (2)

So after some hours of work, the sides are aligned.

Strangely Studio27 made a bit of mistake on the side, the "step" underneath the light should be alot shorter, as seen in the real thing:

So a bit more modificatio and the sides are done (I'll leave the photos in later posts...). Once they are out of the way, it's time to work on the other details. The hole for the fuel tank lid is larger than what it supposed to be, and it's the same for both sides.

and because the lid sits at an angle in the hole, I can't just fill it and sand it flat. Luckily, the diameter of the lid is the same as a McDonald drinking straw, so I cut the straw at an angle, sealed the end with a plastic sheet and glue the whole thing on, once it's dried I can just fill the gap with putty and it's done.

and that's how it is afterwards.

The other part that needs a big fix is the exhaust plate, similar to the fuel intake, it's larger than the etched part, and has to be filled with putty.

Last but not least, the thinning a few spots: mainly the side skirt:

the one at the back is yet to be thinned, makes quite a difference~

And the very thick rear fin......I'll leave the photos of the trimmed fin last.

Next will be applying the paint and decal!
