Lexus LFA - 1/24 Tamiya (1)

After almost a whole year of Zeong, it's back to something more real-world. Here it is, the Lexus LFA from Tamiya, I wasn't a big fan of Lexus cars, but this one just caught my eye.

I bought it back in Hong Kong 2 years ago, unfortunately the car body was crushed when I post it back by mail....I had to order a replacement part from Rainbow Ten, too bad they now stopped taking overseas orders.

Tamiya has done an excellent job on this kit, the engine detail is amazing. Just a little modification here and there, the exhaust, for example, needs....well, the exhaust.....

just some simple drilling and sanding...

One drawback about the kit is the way they divide the parts for the exhaust pipe, as shown in the picture below, it's right in the middle, and you can't glue it together first before the fork on the right end will get in the way of the front suspension parts...

So to get around I separate one side of the fork instead:

with the problem solved next it's the paint job, I used Mr.Metal Color Chrome silver on the exhaust, just spray on, wait 5 min, than polish to give it the shine.

The rest of the engine was quite straight forward, one thing about painting the suspension spring, instead of painting it all black, as in the instructions, I sprayed the flat aluminium and hand painted the black spring onto it, an easier way to make it stand out than actually replacing it with a real spring

A bit of note on the colors used:
Mr Metal Color Chrome Silver
Mr Metal Color Aluminium, then a top coat of Gaia Notes Flat Clear
Tamiya X-31 Titanium Gold
Gaia Notes EX-02 Black + Gaia Notes Flat Clear

Next will be the interior~

  1. I wanted to say thanks for sharing your modeling work. I stumbled onto your blog when I was looking through Google Image search on Fujimi 1/24 scale cars as I was wondering about the quality of Fujimi models as I have only just now heard of the company and I have no experience with the models from Fujimi, Hasegawa, Tamiya, etc. Your photos are inspiring for the level of perfection I hope to achieve with my own models as I just acquired a Hasegawa Honda Civic VTi/ETi (1992-1995 Honda Civic Hatchback). My favorite car still to this day that would potentially be in my budget if I bought the real thing. Feel free to contact me @ liquidinsect@yahoo.com

    Further rambling:
...otherwise the all time favorites for me are the1962/63/64 Ferrari 250 GTO Le Mans Winner, the Ford GT40, the Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe, and the Shelby 427 Cobra. I also like the Enzo Ferrari (which I do own a Tamiya kit of this but it is still untouched). It would be cool for someone to make a kit version of the Adams Probe-16 too.

    1. Thanks! It's happy to see someone appreciate my work!

In the past I've worked most on Bandai's Gundam kit, it's unitl when I started this blog I moved onto auto's, so I am still on a kind of exploration stage. From what I came across so far, Tamiya's kit are probably the best (well, at least with the LFA, and the LaFerrari I just ordered), offering most detail, but because that they are more complext to build. Fujimi is not as detailed but is still very good (from the BMW I worked on)
I guess Aoshima would be the same. I will be working on a Aoshima kit after the LFA, see how it turns out~

  2. I believe there is a piece that goes over the exhaust so no need to drill.

    1. Oh you mean the rear cover? It's not a very thick piece, so you can still see the exhaust through that. You can check out the photos of the complete model, I think I got one directly looking at the rear end.
